Condolences

Condolence From: Darlene Bono
Condolence: It is with deep sadness that I recently heard about Don's passing. I lived up on the hill from the Flemings for 16 years. A gentleman through and through. I can see him mending his fence and repainting over the years. His help in taking down shrubs and bushes. Don helped me plant a blue spruce in my yard one year because the ground was so hard, he dug the hole That tree was always called Little Don. Tireless hard worker in his garage in the early hours of the morning making Christmas gifts for grandchildren. God Bless you Don. You were a treasure to everyone who met you. Rest in peace.

Condolence: My deepest sympathy and condolences, go out to the entire Fleming family I just learned of Don's passing today, sad I didn't get to say good by to my good friend. I remember driving his race car for him, and our good friend John Fleming (not related) crew member the laughs we had traveling to Oswego and back each week, it was a blast. I think of you often Don R.I.P.

Condolence: I am so pleased that I got to know Don through Rotary over the past 27 years. He has been a mentor, advisor, friend and fellow racing enthusiast. Here is a man who truly exemplified "service above self" and I will never forget him. In the grand race of life Don is surely leaving us with the "checkered flag" in his hand. Godspeed my friend.

Condolence: I will miss his smile, the way his shoulders lifted when he laughed and the mischievous little sparkle in his eye. Don was kind, caring, funny, committed, giving and utterly authentic. Thank you to his family for sharing him with us. Our hearts are with you. Our community is a richer place because of Don Fleming. A beautiful human being who leaves a beautiful legacy.

Condolence: I met Don through Rotary Whitby several years ago and I knew immediately he was a special man. He also reminded me a bit of my own Father. These big hearted giants are few and far between. I feel privileged to have known him. My sincere sympathies and prayers go out to his family and close friends.

Condolence From: Cheryl (MacLeod) Matsumura
Condolence: Don’s relationship with our family started with his friendship with Dad, scared my Mom half to death on her wedding night as he chased after them and continued through several daughters over the years. Remembering the many times spent at Chez Fleming; around the pool, in the basement and at the kitchen table and, of course, the baseball years. I was lucky enough to have many thoughtful conversations with Don. He always treated me with kindness and respect. My thoughts are with Joyce and her girls.

Condolence: My memory of Mr Fleming is on the ball field, playing ball against Mr Fleming's team was always a challenge because he had a strong team. What a great man, and such a huge loss to the town and to his family. My deepest condolences to the family.

Condolence: My thoughts are with the family during this upsetting time. Mr. Fleming's absence will be felt by many for years to come. I have great memories with him on the ball field as a kid. He pitched us all 100's of softballs and often we would hit scorchers right back at him in which he had to make ninja quick moves to avoid being beamed in the head or knee. He had a way of dispensing advice in just a single sentence that always made me smile and gave me something to ponder. Rest in Peace Coach

Condolence: The only person who could stay on my dad's tail as he raced away from my parent's wedding. Sandy knew he'd never loose Fleming, too good a driver. I'll always remember Don patting D.A.'s cheek...gently nudging him up a tone while singing. I will miss Don's wisdom and sense of history, and the connection to family, old Whitby and community he always generously shared with me. Across the park, and across the years, all my thoughts are with Joyce, the girls and their families.
