Life Story for Terence Howard "Terry" Nicholls

NICHOLLS , TERENCE H,
passed July 8th, 2018, at Sunnybrook Hospital, of complications
following a New Year’s Eve car accident.

Born in 1929 in Hengoed, Wales, to Doris & Stan Nicholls. Terry came to Canada by ship
as an infant when his father sought work during the Depression. Returning to Taunton, Somerset
in the late 1930s, Terry apprenticed in Cartography at the Admiralty in Taunton, was called up to
London for Military Service, and served as an Officer in the Royal Engineers as an occupying
soldier in Germany from ‘51-‘53. He worked in bomb disposal, and distinguished himself as a
marksman.

Moving to Hertfordshire to take a job at Sun Printers, he married Barbara May Finch in
July, 1954. They lived in Croxley Green, where his 3 boys were born. He was a Scout Master in
Croxley, and met Lord Baden Powell.

Immigrating to Canada in June, 1966, he worked at General Printers, then started
Oshawa’s Tern Graphics in partnership with good friend Erna Taylor, and continued to work well
into his 70s.

After retirement he stayed busy serving the community – at Westmount Kiwanis, the
Oshawa Art Association, and performing with The Westmount Wanderers in churches, at nursing homes and
in hospitals.

He survived a 2017 car accident that left him quadriplegic but with his optimism,
kindness and patience intact. Missed and loved always by sons Andrew, Chris and Philip,
grandchildren Cody, Oliver, Alden and Finlay, first wife Barbara, and by loving partner and best
friend June Stevenson and family.
