In 1967, a certain young Scot named Jason arrived in Brooklin, hired to help on the Booth family farm. The hours were very long and the work was often hard, but one important fact was never forgotten...... He was made a part of the family treated and as a son. Of course, he had to ferry challenging daughter Sandy to and from skating sometimes, and that was not without challenges!
In the absence of his Scottish parents, Al and Peg stood up for Jason when he married Ruth in 1969; Al subsequently helped with their farm and equipment purchases. Many events followed, including a 'shivarree' at the new Douglas farm near Stirling ON attended by none other than Jim Cook, a person who had never in his life been further from his farm than Stouffville. Many other locals participated, and the event was no doubt organized by the Booths!
Al, Peg and Jason kept in touch over the many years and, well after Al's passing and in the last few of Peggy's life, visits became ever more important and supportive. Although family differences appeared in the later years, these were essentially resolved prior to Peggy's passing.
