Obituary for Elizabeth Anne Steeper

Elizabeth Anne Steeper

Elizabeth grew up in Ottawa with her brother and 3 sisters, daughter of Frances and Col. A.F. Duguid. She came to know the Lord Jesus through her sister Margaret, who also led her to meet the young, handsome pastor, Bill Steeper. Bill and Libby were married in 1950, and over 58 years of marriage were blessed with 6 children and 19 grandchildren. After Bill passed away in 2008, Libby enjoyed the additional joy and privilege of being involved in the lives of 14 great grandchildren.

As a young married couple, Libby and Bill began their ministry with Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship in Canada. Soon after, they moved to Honolulu, followed by London, North Bay, Toronto and Markdale Ontario. They opened their home with gracious hospitality, sharing the love of Jesus with all who entered. Libby and Bill had a heart for pastors and their wives, university students, young couples and small group ministry.

Elizabeth was energetic, creative and fun. She loved to minister over the phone and was committed to praying for family and friends. Her ability to encourage and cheer others on in any small or large victory was one of her cherished gifts.

We celebrate as Elizabeth was promoted to Glory on Good Friday, April 19, one week before her 91st birthday. It was a privilege for all 6 of her children to be by her side, surrounding her with love in prayer, song and affection. Though her body was failing, God’s spirit rose up within her, pouring out words of blessing, encouragement and gratitude.

Praise God!
