Obituary for Bryan William Burton

On November 28th, Bryan Burton passed away peacefully at Thorntonview Manor.

Bryan was born in Bristol England on April 1, 1930. No one ever forgot his birthday.

Before moving to Canada he was active in local theatre, once playing a Mountie. He arrived in Canada in 1956 and immediately met his future wife (Johan) at a bonfire. Dressed in a pair of jeans with a trench coat, he was still able to get her number. They were married for 55 years.

Husband to Johan. Father of Ian, Kate and Ellen. Father in law to Tim, David and Erica. Immensely proud Grandfather of: Sarah, Paisley , Gillian, Jack, Laura, Graeme and Emily. Brother of Peter and John. Proud member of the St. Thomas Duffers.

Bryan loved gadgets. At the time of his death, he owned an iPod, an iPad, a laptop, a meat slicer and an electric can opener. He found all of them equally entertaining.
Bryan was a great leader, who had a strong presence and a great voice. He rose through the ranks of Commercial Union Assurance Company, and was a respected member of his church.

A trendsetter, Bryan had been recycling since 1974. He loved meeting new people and enjoyed hearing their stories. Traditional on the outside, Bryan was open minded and forward thinking in his views and in his life.

Bryan and Johan were avid travelers who enjoyed experiencing many different cultures. They have helicopter toured volcanoes in Hawaii, panned for gold in Alaska and toured the Colosseum in Rome.

Bryan is now waiting for Johan with his dog Chelsea, looking forward to the next big adventure.

Visitation at Barnes Memorial Funeral Home, 5295 Thickson Rd. N. Whitby (905-655-3662) on Friday December 6th, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.

Then to St. Thomas Anglican Church, Winchester and St. Thomas Sts Brooklin where a service to celebrate Bryan’s life will be held in the church on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.

In memory of Bryan, memorial donations to St. Thomas Anglican Church or the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.
