Obituary for Hazel Irene Garrow (Macklin)

At St. Joseph’s Health Centre in Toronto, on Monday, February 5, 2024. Hazel Irene Garrow (nee Macklin) of Toronto (formerly of Belleville).

Born in Scarborough in 1930, Hazel grew up on a farm, later graduating with a degree in physiotherapy from the University of Toronto in 1951. She worked as a physiotherapist in both Canada and the United States where she lived for twenty years. Returning to Canada in retirement, Hazel enthusiastically pursued many interests, joining the Belleville Curling Club and Belleville Duplicate Bridge Club, where she served on the executive and earned a Life Master. She was an avid swimmer, travelled extensively and engaged in current affairs and politics. Hazel shared her later years with family, encouraging and supporting her grandchildren in their academic and sporting endeavours while taking great pride in their accomplishments.

Hazel is survived by her daughters, Marion Garrow (Rob Barnes) and Jean Garrow (Paul McLaughlin). Also survived by her grandsons, Duncan Barnes (Daniela Rodriguez), Graeme Barnes (Hayley McKay), Kieran Barnes, her granddaughters, Rachel McLaughlin (Dan Carroll), Sarah McLaughlin Seymour (Jon Seymour), and her great-grandchildren, Myles and Sasha Seymour along with several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her husband, Edward (Bob) Garrow, her sister, Shirley Macklin and by her brother and sister-in-law, Allan and Barbara Macklin.
