Obituary for Louise Sertsis (Huneault)

Louise Sertsis

Suddenly and unexpectedly, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of her family at Lakeridge Health Oshawa on October 9th 2021 at the age of 45.

Beloved wife of Spiro for 20 years. Cherished mom of her fur babies, Stella and Gordie.

Louise will be forever missed by her parents Gilbert Huneault and Nicole Fontaine and her sister Mireille Huneault.

Lovingly remembered by her parents-in-law, Trifon and Irene Sertsis and her brothers-in-law Tom (Sara) and Angelo (Carla).

Forever remembered by her niece and nephews, Andrew, Marina, Nolan and Leo.

Fondly remembered by her extended family and her many friends.

Louise was a brilliant, beautiful woman. Her drive, determination and honesty challenged us to look at ourselves and to be better people. Louise was by nature a positive person and never let her situation get her down.

Challenged by her mobility, each and every day, striving to make her health better, she started her own company. Founder of Advanced Freedom, Louise raised the bar with the invention of the first and only front-facing bag for wheelchair users. This invention has helped people all over the world... Truly amazing.

Her perseverance and determination was something to see. Her efforts as a fearless advocate for people with disabilities, and the success of her company, lead to her being recognized as one of the Top 25 Women of Influence in Canada in 2020.

Louise had a dream of being on television. She had a true Hollywood smile! She never wanted a speaking part - just wanted to be on TV, like the “maid on the Young & The Restless” she would say - a show she watched for as long as she could remember. That dream came true in November 2020, when Louise was cast in an episode of the hit CBC and Netflix show, “Kim’s Convenience”. Louise dabbled in modelling and acting too. She was very passionate about inclusion, especially on television, and because of her dedication, her dream came true.

Louise’s most important role in life was as a teacher. Not formally in a school … but in life. She helped teach those that know her to fight for what they believe in. She did this with courage, perseverance, determination and unconditional love in every part of her life. She was a true example of what all of us strive to be.

Her brilliance resonated in many other instances in her life - too many to list. Her resume was full. Not only was she an MS warrior, and no matter what her daily battle with MS brought, she accomplished more in only 45 years than many people do in their lifetime.

While we have lost a beautiful soul, heaven has gained a magnificent angel. We are all blessed to have known her and know that she is watching over us now.

Courageous. Strong. Inspiring. Confident. Beautiful. Loving. Louise.
