Obituary for Robert Verne Colby

It is with deepest sorrow we share news of the passing of a most beloved father and grandfather, Robert Colby in his 85th year. Bob passed away at home on October 6, supported by his daughters, after an intense battle with cancer; he fought valiantly to remain independent and to remain with us.

Bob is predeceased by the love of his life Helen, his parents Golden and Mae, and his brother Ivan. He is survived by his children Brian (Monique), Lynn, and Cheryl (Steve) Hurst; his cherished grandchildren David (Stephanie) of Alberta, Quinn, and Kristy (Ryan); and his brother Don.

Bob was born in Picton and grew up in Norwood, Cordova Mines and Havelock. He was employed at GM as a labourer, material handler and a forklift driver.
Bob was a man of few words who was a great listener, loved time spent with family, loved word searches, puzzles, old cars, was a talented driveway mechanic and handyman, and was always the first to offer a helping hand. A truly beautiful soul has been lost to us.

We would like to extend a very special thank you to Dr. Abdul Rahman for his compassionate care.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the Barnes Memorial Funeral Home.

As per Bob’s wishes, a private family interment will be held at Mount Lawn Cemetery.

Donations to Sick Kid’s Hospital or the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.
