Passed away peacefully on Saturday January 9th, 2021 at the age of 102 after a life well lived. She almost reached her next life goal of celebrating her 103rd birthday on April 28th. She was both proud of and somewhat amazed with her age.
We credit her longevity to no nonsense, clean living, and her routine afternoon nap.
Cherished wife of William V. Jarrett (predeceased 1998) for 59 years.
Most loved Mother of Robert (Carleen) of Brooklin, Virginia Ann (Aurèle) of Markdale, David (Shirley) of Fort Erie, Linda (Douglas) of Pickering.
Proud grandmother of Paul (Liz), Laurie (Louis), Leeanne, Melanie (Perry), Scott (Misako), Stephen (Lori), Stephannie, Christopher, Alysha (Ben) and Dylan (Andra). Delighted great grandmother of Brendan, Kieran, Evan, Teagan, Brook, Paulina, Sia, Brooke, Tyler, Rush, Emma, Mia, Lea, Leif.
Virginia was born in 1918 in Stamford, Connecticut. She came to Canada as a young child with her Father and resided in Hamilton, Ontario and later in Dundas, Ontario. She was a graduate of Westdale Secondary School in Hamilton and worked as a stenographer at Stelco in the medical department. She then chose to be a stay-at-home Mom to devote her attention to her family. Virginia was an accomplished seamstress and a wonderful cook. She handcrafted clothing for the family, square dance dresses for herself, and baked family favourites such as the best butter tarts and lemon meringue pies. She also enjoyed crocheting, knitting and needle point. Later in life she developed an interest in art appreciation. She supported William (Bill) in all his musical endeavors, choir and solo appearances, Hamilton Theatre Company, the Harlequin Singers, Gilbert and Sullivan Operettas, and Geritol Follies. During their retirement years, Virginia and Bill enjoyed walking, square dancing, ballroom dancing, theatre, the philharmonic, and became world travellers.
While Virginia was a quiet personality, she had a subtle sense of humour, surprising wit, and demonstrated patience and understanding. Virginia was an only child who grew to be an awesome role model for all her family members.
