Obituary for Ross Batten

Batten, Ross (July 5, 1944 – March 17, 2016)

A community leader, a planner for a better future and proud father, Ross will be recalled fondly. Survived by his wife and friend since childhood Diane (Fisher) Batten, son Bradley (Shelly), daughter Deborah (Brad) Hole, grandsons Ryan and Craig (Maxene), great-grandson Lucas; and by his sister Judy Gibson of St. Catharines and her family.
Predeceased by his son Christopher and his parents Russell and Helen Batten, former owners of the Ashburn General Store and post office.
Ross distinguished himself as a Town of Whitby Councillor for 13 years, Region of Durham councillor for 3 years, chairman and director of Whitby Hydro Electric Corp. for 15+ years, and president of the Brooklin and District Kinsmen Club. As he coped with the rapid progression of cancer at his home in Port Perry, Ross took solace from his trust in his Lord and Saviour.
Visit and celebrate Ross’s life on Tuesday March 22nd from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. at Whitby Free Methodist Church, 1916 Rossland Rd. E. Whitby.
The service will follow In the church at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

Memorial donations may be made to Port Perry Hospital Foundation or Whitby Free Methodist Church, Missions Fund. (Donations may be made by cheque)
