Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Elizabeth Hodson can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Obituary for Elizabeth Edith May Hodson (Hyland )

At home in the presence of her family Edith passed into the loving arms of the Lord on November 17, 2013 after a long courageous battle with cancer.

Edith was the beloved daughter of Edward Pearson Hyland and Catherine (Cartwright). Loving mother of David, Terry (Bev), Heather (John) Dale (David), Cyndy (Brian) Marilyn (Rick), Sharon (Ron). Loving Grandmother, Great-Grandmother and Great-Great-Grandmother.
Loving Aunt and Great Aunt to numerous nieces and nephews. Lovingly remembered by her siblings Ted (dec), Bert, George (dec), Catherine (dec), Rod, Bob and Craige (dec)
Valarie and Patrick as well as many in_laws.

Edith was an honour-role member of the United Church of Canada and a founding member of Westminster United Church on Manning Rd in Whitby where all of her seven children were baptized. Edith most recently was a member of the Church of Master in Scarborough where she was a member of the UCW and Church Choir. Edith was also a member of the Ontario Presbyterian choir visiting and singing within numerous sites within Canada. Mom also had the opportunity to travel through Europe and experience the Passion Play in Germany and was able to celebrate her 65th birthday in Paris France, a dream never thought possible. Mom also had 25 years as a volunteer at Scarborough General Hospital. A service she poured her heart into and enjoyed always.

Edith and her family would like to thank the Simcoe Muskoka CCAC, Saint Elizabeth Nurses and PSW’s and Dr. Mossman for all their wonderful care and support as she embarked on her final journey.

Resting at Barnes Memorial Funeral Home, 5295 Thickson Rd. N. Whitby from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday. A service will be held in the Barnes Chapel Friday afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
